
Helen James is a photographic historian / writer specialising in the history and culture of publicly funded photography. She is currently working with The Photographers' Gallery to research and write a biography of the gallery's history and she is also a visiting lecturer to the department of photography at The Arts Institute, Bournemouth.
Currently based in London Helen also works as a freelance writer, lecturer and consultant on photography for publications and organisations that include: Barnardo’s, The Times Education Supplement, FiveArts Broadcasting Publications, United Business Media and University College Falmouth. She has previously worked across photography as an education manager and lecturer most notably at: the National Portrait Gallery (London), Photoworks (Brighton), Open Eye Gallery (Liverpool), Modern Art Oxford and Edinburgh College of Art.
