The single entry Still Life 3. winner was won by Claudia Fainguersch, an architect turned fine art photographer who lives and works in Argentina. This is the fifth time she has entered an LPA competition: she was a finalist in the Photoart contest and placed fourth in Still Life 2005. Still Life particularly interests her as the category naturally caters for her fine art skills and she feels able to use her background in design and art to create the images. She tells us about the winning image: “The image that won was taken in July 2006 during a trip to Berlin. I was walking through the Hamburg Bahnhof Museum and I found myself in this room where there were no people and I could only hear the wind through a window. The light, the silence and the atmosphere tempted me to take out my camera and get several shots of this suggestive window. I took about 30 shots in all but in this one, I found the real moment and feel that it captured the peace and mystery I wanted to show.”
Claudia is an architect with a background in art and design. In 1999, she started to study photography as there were so many parallels with her career and photography. She still finds her earlier art and architecture studies an immense help to her in constructing photographic images. She sees her future in photography: “I’m working hard to make good images and to learn as much as I can. I’d like to continue showing my photographs here in Argentina and all over the world as well.”
Talking about the photographic scene in Argentina, Claudia says: “Photography in Argentina has developed a lot in the last 5 years. I’m working with a very renowned argentine photographer called Juan Travnik to create photography workshops and, every two years, we have a photography festival (the Festival de la Luz). Photographers from all over the world come to show their work and some important names come to judge the portfolios, too.”
Claudia values being an LPA member, enjoying both the benefit that association membership and competition success brings to her career but also welcoming the opportunity to see fresh new photography from all over the world in the online portfolios. She’s delighted with her Still Life win and says, “I’ll definitely keep entering other competitions!”
