Dougier: Wins Gold Fashion Awards

Estelle Dougier Fine Art Photographer

Parisienne Estelle Dougier won single image Gold with her “suggestive and sexy” image taken outside a little movie theatre in Paris’s Montmartre at night. Estelle took the image two years ago but thought it was perfect for Fashion: Chapter 3 and decided to enter.

“Competitions and awards help me in two ways,” says Estelle. “Firstly, they give me confidence. They are a good way to get feedback and to see if people like your work. Secondly, people are more likely to give you commissions if they see your work has already had some recognition.”

Estelle started serious photography only a few years ago. Her passion for photography and for expression sprung up in New York, where she went to study. Whilst there, she started to think of photography as a real artistic culture, and took weekend classes at the International Center of Photography.

“I’m mostly doing fine art photography,” Estelle explains. “I’ve exhibited in several countries (France - of course - in Paris, Arles and Lille, but also in the UK, the United States, Belgium, Italy and Portugal). I started doing commissions only two years ago.

“My favourite commissions so far have been for a children's fashion company. I’ve been working for them for three seasons now and it’s always a real pleasure for me as I love working with children - and I think their clothes are really amazing!”

Estelle has been commissioned by a jazz band to take pictures of their next big concert in Paris this month. In November, she will exhibit her series “A Day at the Circus” in Paris. There’s a big project of 80 pictures for a book in the pipeline but, meanwhile, Estelle is enjoying working on personal projects and developing the style which won her first place in the single image category of Fashion: Chapter 3.
