CAREER

Born in North Yorkshire, after I finished school I knew exactly what I wanted to do, and that was be a graphic designer. I completed a HND in Graphic design with Merit at Cumbria Institute of the Arts in 1993. After taking a year out, I moved to London. I finished a Masters Degree in Computer Imaging & Animation at the age of 24. I started off working as a motion graphic designer in London. First of all I worked in television studios, designing, animating and producing title sequences and on-air graphics for a multitude of different programmes. I also picked up a host of other skills in and out of the studio including casting, set design, lighting and directing. Following this I worked as a full time freelancer in one of the first web based television experiments as a designer creating graphics for the Earth & Space web portal, where I was in charge of the graphic output for that department. Eager to explore the world, I set off on an adventure to Australia, which was an experience that was to change my life forever. My time there saw me working in the skydiving industry and as a scuba diving instructor. All the while, my passion for photography intensified. After Australia, I lived in New Zealand for almost five years working as Senior Designer for Television New Zealand (TVNZ), which was a fantastic experience. It was in New Zealand that I bought my first serious Digital SLR. I’ve always had cameras, ever since I was a child, my Grandad was a keen amateur photographer and I think a lot if his influence rubbed off on me while I was growing up. Back then there was no digital, and I still use film when I get the chance, and have a great love and appreciation for it. Determined to learn more about photography and pursue it as a second career, I moved back to the UK. While still working freelance as an Art Director and Designer, I Completed a FdA Degree in Commercial photography, with Distinction, in 2010. I’m very excited about the next chapter…
